Vision systems „Cognex”

„Cognex” is the world’s leading manufacturer of vision systems. The founder of the company was Dr. Robert J. Shillman.

The company head quarter is located in the USA, in Natick near Boston, Massachusetts and has local offices around the world from America, Europe to Asia.

The launch of „Cognex” vision systems coincided with the dynamic growth of automation around the world and was a response to production errors occurring on production lines. In order to reduce production costs and thus increase productivity, it was necessary to create a control system to verify the conformity of manufactured products.

Since the 1980s, when „Cognex” ntroduced for the first time a novelty on the industrial automation market – the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system, the company is continuously synonymous with the highest quality products, valued in the industry for innovative, professional solutions.

The first system introduced by „Cognex” company is the „DataMan” system (until today treated as a symbol of vision systems), with time extending its portfolio with novelties that supported the rapidly growing automation of production.

Ad.1 Industrial vision systems

This group consists of 2D vision products from the In-Sight 2000, In-Sight 7000 (Gen. 2 and 1), In-Sight 8000, In-Sight 5600/5705, In-Sight 9000, In-Sight 9902L Line Scan Vision System, which work with In-Sight Explorer software.

„Cognex” also offers here 3D applications characterized by excellent performance, accuracy and robustness: 3D series vision products: In-Sight Laser Profiler, 3D Laser Displacement Sensors and DSMax 3D Laser Displacement Sensors.

The company has its vision software. An innovative program is VisionPro ViDi using artificial intelligence – the first software for industrial image analysis. „Cognex” also offers OEM products developed for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).

1D and 2D bar code readers

This group includes stationary code readers: DataMan 70, DataMan 150/260, DataMan 370, DataMan 470, handheld code readers: DataMan 8050, DataMan 8070, DataMan 8600 and mobile solutions of the following types: mobile barcode scanners for creating software for barcodes (SDK), mobile MX series barcode scanners and mobile MX series video terminals.

The offer of „Cognex” company is widely used in many branches of industry. „Cognex” provides products and applications, among others: for automation of production, for automobile industry, electronics, food, pharmaceutical industry, for production of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules, in logistics, at airports while handling luggage, for tobacco industry, but also in science, e.g. for in-vitro diagnostics or laboratory automation.

„Cognex” vision systems track the product throughout the entire line by detecting faulty products or identifying manufactured parts. Despite advanced solutions in the area of industrial automation of the XXI century, errors on production lines will always appear, so the control of the correctness of the production process is necessary if the manufacturer cares about maintaining high quality of products and maintaining prices for the final customer.
